Dukales Dream starring Hugh Jackman comes to the Belltable

World Vision are delighted to announce the screening of Dukales Dream at the Belltable Arts Centre, Limerick on Thursday 6th October at 7pm. Food and refreshments will be provided after the screening. The evening promises to provide an insightful look into the life of a coffee farmer and guarantees that come the morning when viewers are looking for their morning brew, questions will be raised as to whether the coffee they are paying for are actually benefiting coffee farmers like Dukale.

Can changing your cup of coffee in the morning really make a difference? That’s what World Vision ambassadors Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness discovered when they travelled to Ethiopia with World Vision Chief Executive, Tim Costello, in order to create Dukales Dream.

While visiting the country’s Yirgacheffe region- the birthplace of coffee- Hugh and Deborra Lee were inspired by 27 year old coffee farmer Dukale and his wife Adanech. Hugh Jackman swaps show stopping, glittering Hollywood lights in a real test of character by experiencing poverty first hand and the inconceivable and incredible hard work Dukale undertakes on a daily basis to provide the very basic means for his family.

Unbeknownst to Dukale, Hugh Jackman is a prominent face on the world stage. Upon returning to New York Hugh Jackman can’t just talk about Dukale but rather feels compelled to act upon what he has witnessed and these post trip actions are delightfully highlighted in this documentary.

Speaking about his first-hand experience in Ethiopia, Hugh Jackman said ‘Going to Ethiopia with World Vision and meeting Dukale taught me and Deb what a difference fair trade makes to the income of farmers, and consequently their ability to break the cycle of poverty’.

Also speaking about the trip, Deborra Lee Furness said ‘When we set off I didn’t know what to expect – the reality of Dukale and Hugh’s lives are worlds apart. But when we spent time with his family, heard that all he wanted for their kids was the chance at a better future – we shared a common bond’.
