DUO Cafe Limerick giving new lease of life to local brands
DUO Cafe Limerick opened on Denmark Street over 16 months ago. Paul Ryan, 22- year old photography graduate from Limerick College of Further Education has proved being young does not prevent you from starting your own business. It has been just shy of a year and a half since Paul opened a brand-new retail space that prides itself on selling local Irish produce.
Paul’s unique idea is the combination of a café with a shop that concentrates on selling sustainable and eco-friendly products.
Paul said, “I started off just wanting to have a coffee shop, but I knew I needed something else too, and I have always been a fan of sustainable products.”
Paul found his niche in working on photography in fashion while studying in Limerick College of Further Education. When Grace Collier opened her now successful vintage clothing shop Spice Vintage on Harveys Quay, Paul was inspired and took the leap of faith and started his own business. Shops such as Spice Vintage and DUO café have increased the popularity of sustainable fashion and products especially among young people in Limerick.
DUO adds a pop of colour to Denmark Street and it’s bright and modern interior is welcoming to everyone and anyone looking to add more sustainability into their everyday lives as the quaint café offers over 20 Irish brands.
DUO offers a wide range of sustainable, eco-friendly products from Irish brands such as Bee Natural Ireland and Palm Free Irish Soap. DUO also offers a wide range of products from reusable cups, straws, utensils, and toothbrushes made from sustainable materials to books on leading a waste-free life and cookbooks. As well as an array of beauty products, customers are spoilt for choice, all while remaining eco-friendly.
Paul adds, “Ever since the shop has been open, we are always expanding with new products. We try to ask people what kind of products they want so our main focus is really providing sustainable everyday products to make it easier for our customers to be more eco-friendly.”
