Limerick City’s five-piece Dylan Flynn and the Dead Poets release their sophomore EP, ‘Crazy How We Live Like This’, on Thursday, February 10. The indie-rock outfit released singles from the collection throughout 2021, with the latest being ‘I Wasn’t Ready’, which dropped on February 2. All the songs on this EP were recorded and produced by the band themselves in their studio space in Limerick City. The EP is set to come out on Limerick-based record label, Bit Depth.

The new Dylan Flynn EP consists of six tracks and two bonus tracks, which are stripped-back live recordings. The opening track, ‘Days’ is an 80s-inspired number with lyrics referencing the housing crisis in Ireland.

‘Everything Will Be Ok’ is an upbeat alt-rock track with fuzzy guitars and sparkling riffs. ‘You’ is a gentle indie-folk number with layered guitars and swirling drones. Indie Rock anthem ‘Shine’ has a huge chorus and soaring guitar solo. The group’s latest release ‘I Wasn’t Ready’ is upbeat, with dark lyrics and a driving force.

The eagerly awaited Dylan Flynn EP was a big step forward for the band, as it shows they are capable of creating impressive productions across multiple genres. The project came together over 18 months, beginning as just a string of singles.

When Dylan and the boys began releasing singles, they realized the songs had a cohesive theme and would work well together on an EP. While the talented bunch did most of the production on their new release, the tracks ‘Days’, ‘Everything Will Be Ok’ and ‘I Wasn’t Ready’ were mixed by Mike Gavin of Windings Fame. The EP was mastered by Richard Dowling.

Like many other Limerick artists, the band has gone down a DIY path, choosing to self-record and produce their music. The indie collective has gained notable recognition on the Irish music scene, with their music being featured in Hot Press, Golden Plec, and Indie Buddie.

Band lead Dylan Flynn said, “Each track on this EP encapsulates a different moment or feeling I experienced over the last few years. It’s sort of like a time capsule of memories and mistakes that I hope other people can connect with too.”

Chris Sherlock of Galway’s Flirt FM said of the Treaty output, “Dylan Flynn & The Dead Poets have a great euphoric sound blended with great lyrics.”
