The Pigtown Culture & Food Series, which celebrates Limerick’s food culture and heritage, is now in its third year and will run until October 25.

Inspired by the history of Limerick’s famous bacon industry, it is a programme of themed food and cultural events taking place in various venues in Limerick City and County. The Pigtown Festival 2019 is developed by the Limerick Food Group and supported by Limerick City and County Council, LEO, and LIT.

Other events during the Pigtown festival series include food tours, cookery demos, themed restaurant events, lectures and talks, foraging walks, and a food industry networking event.

EatinLimerick was launched as a dining guide map in October 2015 to whet appetites for Limerick food and local dining. Supported by GGL Security and Limerick LEO (Local Enterprise Office), it is a personal project of Limerick communications consultant Olivia O’Sullivan after seeing a need to bring the local food scene together.

Olivia said, “I felt we needed a foodie guide map for Limerick, there are so many new eateries even locals can’t keep up, not to mention trying to inform visitors. That’s how EatinLimerick came about; it was a case of needs must. We have great food heritage here and increasing numbers of local producers so something like this was needed to bring attention to all of that.”

Limerick company GGL Security, which operates nationally and internationally and has headquarters in Limerick City, is the main sponsor of the project. Social media users are encouraged to use the hashtag ’#eatinlimerick‘ on social media to highlight how much is going on in Limerick food, from casual, healthy and gourmet dining, to homegrown produce.

So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
