Limerick Chamber has today said that the news of 250 further jobs at Edwards Lifesciences further evidences the region’s competitiveness as a base for scaling operations into European markets.
CEO of Limerick Chamber – the largest business representative group in the Mid-West – Dee Ryan said, “The official opening of Edwards Lifesciences state-of-the-art, purpose-built €80m manufacturing centre in Limerick today is a very positive moment in its own right for the region but to be accompanied by the announcement of 250 additional jobs is a much welcome additional boost.
“This is a major vote of confidence in Limerick and the wider Mid-West as it reaffirms that this region is ideally positioned for ambitious organisations who plan to scale and grow their operations in Europe. This region’s appeal from an inward investment perspective is underpinned by our pipeline of talent, together with its affordability, accessibility and lifestyle opportunities.
“Factor in our expanding export capacity at Shannon Airport and Shannon Foynes Port and we have a highly competitive value proposition for companies targeting growth into the European market.
“Edwards Lifesciences has been a hugely valued addition to our business community, contributing to the thought leadership for operational excellence that exists in the Mid-West. We are delighted to be their location of choice for the important next phase of the organisation’s journey. We want to congratulate their General Manager here in Ireland Nathan Tenzer, their Chairman and CEO Michael A. Mussallem at headquarters in California and the team at IDA in the US here in the Mid-West on making this happen or Ireland.”
Mayor Daniel Butler said, “This announcement by the firm is a huge vote of confidence for the team already in place at the facility as well as the broader sector across Limerick and mid-west region. We are delighted that the company has selected Limerick for the additional investment which will bring the number of jobs to 850 at their campus in the National Technology Park in Plassey.”
“The announcement comes as the company opens its state-of-the-art operations centre which will manufacture transcatheter therapies to repair or replace damaged heart valves.”
“Limerick has a unique eco-system which makes it hugely attractive for firms to invest here. By working in partnership we can showcase our ambitions as we support IDA Ireland in their work in securing investment for the mid-west as we develop and expand the life sciences sector and others.”
