Limerick based artist Edwina Morrissey presents Memoria

Memoria, an exhibition of new work by Edwina Morrissey.
Limerick Printmakers (LP) are delighted to announce the opening of Memoria, an exhibition of new work by emerging Limerick based artist Edwina Morrissey. The exhibition will be officially opened by Aine Ni Giollacoda of the Limerick School of Art & Design’s (LSAD) Painting department.

LP will host the exhibition in the Belltable on Tuesday October 25 2016 from 6pm and the show will continue until Saturday November 5.  All are encouraged to join us on the opening night & throughout the exhibition.

Edwina Morrissey is the recipient of the 2015/16 Tom Fox Painting Award, an accolade bestowed on an outstanding graduate of LSAD’s Painting degree program each year. The Fox family has kindly funded this bursary over the last four years as a way of commemorating the Limerick based painter Tom Fox’s untimely passing in September 2010. A talented and prolific artist, he exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally. The award was created in Tom’s name by the Fox family with the aim of supporting and encouraging a graduate painter from Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) in the early stages of their career. The prize facilitates the artist by providing a prominent solo exhibition in a well-established gallery space with support from the LP team. Limerick Printmakers are proud to host this exhibition in conjunction with the Belltable as part of both organizations exhibition programmes. The award has become an integral part of Limerick Printmakers remit and one that reinforces Limerick Printmakers ethos of supporting artists working within various visual art disciplines.

Edwina writes ‘Small memories are not those that may be found in the pages of the history books but instead, merely hold significance to only but a few. This may seem esoteric and inaccessible, however, these mundane happenings follow a similar thread with which we all may identify. The archives stored in the minds of the human collective are awash with these ‘small memories’. Towers and mountains of what, to those not involved, appear to be of little consequence. Even in the mind of a single individual, the ‘small memories’ skip and scratch like old vinyl records, lines blur and moments in time mix into a solitary moment. People forget and misremember, and then there are those who outright lie – though they may argue that all good stories deserve embellishment. What can’t be denied is that when combined these, small memories amount to the lives of everyone and create a common human experience that can trigger personal memories in the viewer.’

LP would like to acknowledge its ongoing collaboration with the Belltable venue and the assistance of the entire Belltable/Lime Tree Theatre team in realizing Limerick Printmakers exhibition programme.
