EVA International is proud to announce Ei Electronics as the official sponsor of the Young EVA Audio Collective for the 38th EVA International. The Young EVA Audio Collective is an education programme for school students to creatively explore and engage with sound technologies at the 38th EVA International.

This project will include the participation of fifteen students from a Fifth Year school group at Thomond Community College. They will be mentored by Composer and Educator Dr John Samuel Greenwood and facilitators, Bláithín Hughes, Caitríona Moloney and Ciarán Power. It will consist of five weekly workshops commencing from the 2 May, exploring the exhibition and its themes as inspiration for developing a sound composition.

In the workshops, the students will create an artwork which explores Ardnacrusha Hydroelectric Dam, and the painting Night’s Candles are Burnt Out (1927) by Irish artist Seán Keating. The students will collect sounds, using sampling techniques to create a layered collage of sound.

In June the collective will present their final composition at EVA as an immersive audio installation. This will be presented alongside documentation of their process during the Young EVA Audio Collective programme.

Speaking about the announcement that EI Electronics supports EVA, Matt Packer, Director/CEO of EVA said, “EVA International is delighted to be working with Ei Electronics to deliver a programme that will engage students in ideas of electricity, sound, and experiences of contemporary art. The Young EVA Audio Collective programme has been developed as a response to the themes of the 38th EVA International exhibition that opens from April to July 2018, which takes its starting point from the local history of the Ardnacrusha Hydroelectric Dam. The programme shares in EVA’s longstanding ambition to connect the arts to the broadest possible audiences in Limerick.’’

Speaking about the announcement that EI Electronics supports EVA, Michael Guinee, Managing Director of Ei Electronics said, “Fostering the inspiration of young people in this unique way and providing an outlet for their talents is something Ei Electronics is delighted to support. We are particularly pleased to assist in the delivery of the programme given its local link to the Ardnacrusha Hydroelectric Dam, and wish the fifteen participating students a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.”

The 38th EVA International takes place across five venues in Limerick city featuring historical, recent and commissioned works by 56 artists and an extended programme at IMMA, Dublin. The exhibition runs from 14 April to 8 July in Limerick venues, and 6 April to 27 May at IMMA, Dublin.

EVA International is Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art, creating 12-week programmes of exhibitions and events that engage with the people and city of Limerick every two years. Since being founded in 1977, EVA International has worked with 2,104 artists and 41 curators from across the world, bringing outstanding exhibitions to audiences in the west of Ireland.
