Down Syndrome Limerick: Eight to the Gate and Donate fundraiser

Cratloe GAA might have been on lockdown the weekend of 26 – 28 June from a training perspective but it didn’t stop them getting out and getting active for a fundraiser which raised vital funds for the very worthy charity Down Syndrome Limerick. The “Eight to the Gate and Donate” fundraising event was organised by the Cratloe GAA and Camogie clubs and saw members participate in an 8km walk or run from the Cratloe to Meelick gates in Cratloe Woods.  Not only did the players get involved, but the whole community of Cratloe got out to support the cause.  A cheque was presented by Cratloe GAA to Down Syndrome Limerick earlier this week to the value of €7,854.

Ellen Tuffy, Chairperson for Down Syndrome Limerick said, “We are so grateful to Cratloe GAA and Camogie clubs for the efforts that they went to in organising this fundraiser for us.  The amount raised was phenomenal. The rain that weekend didn’t dampen the spirits of the Cratloe people.  The community got behind the event and the charity and smiled through the rain.  We are so grateful to them for their support.  We are working towards re-opening our doors in September and we are currently working on procuring PPE and cleaning equipment so that we can reduce the risk of Covid at our facility.  This money will assist us in doing that.  It will also help cover the costs of therapy sessions for children and adults with Down Syndrome. We rely on the generosity of individuals, clubs and businesses to support us to keep our services going. Sincerest thanks to everyone in Cratloe for getting involved and getting behind us.  We would also like to wish Cratloe the very best in the first round of the championship this coming weekend.  Creatlach Abú!”
