Limerick’s Eimhin Prendergast is taking on the challenge of climbing the four highest mountains across Ireland and the UK within 48 hours, raising funds for  Mid-Western Cancer Foundation and Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland (RHSI) , honouring his mother, Catherine Hogan.

Eimhin will attempt to climb the peaks within 48 hours, raising funds for the two organisations that supported his family, in memory of his mother, who passed away in April.

Eimhin shared on his GoFundMe, “In August, I will be doing an endurance fundraiser challenge in memory of my Mom, who passed away in April following a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. I will be climbing the highest peaks in Ireland (Carrauntoohil), Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike), and Wales (Snowdon) in a 48-hour challenge.”

Eimhin said the Mid-Western Cancer Foundation provides invaluable volunteer-led support to people battling cancer and to families who have lost loved ones to the disease. He added, “Unfortunately, my family falls into both of these categories, as my Dad was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks before my Mom passed away.”

He also hopes to support the RHSI at Bellefield, explaining why the charity means so much to him and his family, he said, “When my Mom was first diagnosed with cancer in early 2022, the RHSI at Bellefield became her happy place where she could do what she loved most: using her green fingers in the garden. It gave her many a happy memory, so I would like to give something back to them in return.”

Eimhin is encouraging people to donate or share the fundraiser and says any donations, regardless of size, are appreciated, he said, “If you are in a position to make a donation, I would be extremely grateful to you. No donation is too small, every single euro goes a long way towards my fundraising goal.

“Sharing this fundraiser with your family and friends is another fantastic way to show support, as it will help to spread the fundraiser as far and wide as possible.”

As of July 3, 2026, the fundraiser has received more than €8,000 in donations, with a target of €14,000 the fundraiser remains open.
