Limerick-born singer-songwriter Robert Dawson is set to make his Electric Picnic debut on Friday, August 29th, performing on the Word Stage in the Mindfield area at 4:00 pm.

Known for his heartfelt acoustic pop, drawing comparisons to artists like Lewis Capaldi and Cian Ducrot, Dawson is ready to bring his emotional storytelling and soaring melodies to Ireland’s biggest festival.

For Dawson, this is far more than just another gig. “Music has taken me from my bedroom in Limerick to the Word Stage at Electric Picnic — I can’t wait to give it everything I’ve got,” he says. With over 80,000 people attending the festival each year, it’s an unparalleled opportunity for exposure, connection, and growth as an artist.

The journey to Electric Picnic began in a uniquely organic way. Last year, a friend — comedian Martin Beanz Warde — invited Dawson to attend the festival. During the trip, Dawson found himself in front of the owner of the Word Tent. Without hesitation, he performed one of his songs. That impromptu moment led to an invitation to perform at this year’s event.

“I still can’t believe how it happened,” Dawson recalls. “One minute I was just there to enjoy the festival, the next minute I’m singing, and now I’m booked for one of the biggest stages in my career so far.”

Dawson said he “can’t wait to give it everything I’ve got”

Robert Dawson is a 23-year-old upcoming Limerick singer-songwriter who has gained recognition with his newest track Scared, which has amassed over 23,000 streams and more than 150,000 TikTok views. Growing up in foster care and battling mental health challenges all his life, Dawson’s journey into music began at the age of 10 when he was placed into Spotlight Stage School in Limerick. His love for performing and singing only grew, and today, that passion is showcased in every note he plays.

Dawson’s rising profile has seen him featured in VIP Magazine, The Irish Independent, and Hot Press Magazine. In 2023, he became an advocate for Focus Ireland, speaking about his experience of youth homelessness and performing at Croke Park during Shine a Light Night. As part of his advocacy work, he has also had the honour of singing for former Irish President Mary McAleese. He is a dedicated mental health advocate, openly sharing his journey with his audience on Instagram.

Electric Picnic marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Robert Dawson — a moment where years of dedication, late-night songwriting sessions, and local gigs culminate in one of Ireland’s most celebrated cultural events. He is truly an artist on the rise, and one to watch out for.
