Limerick’s Ellen Goggin is set to travel to Portugal this January with the Girls in Green as the young Limerick football player has received a call-up to the Republic of Ireland Under-16 squad.

The first match will take place on the 13th of January, followed by a second encounter on the 15th of January. Both games will be played at the Póvoa de Varzim Municipal Stadium, located just north of Porto.

It is an exciting period for the young Limerick forward as she was recently promoted to the Treaty United Women’s senior squad having worked as part of the Treaty Academy.

On being called up to the Treaty Senior Team, Ellen Goggin commented, “I’m super happy to sign with the Treaty United Women’s first team. Coming through the Academy here has been an amazing journey and I’m grateful for all the support along the way. I’ve learned so much and can’t wait to test myself at senior level, help the team and continue to grow as a player this season.”

Goggin is no stranger to international football. The Limerick forward has previously represented the Republic of Ireland at U15, U16, and U17 levels. In September, she featured for the Irish WU17 squad that won the Female Football Tournament, defeating Italy in the final, with Treaty United Senior Men’s coach Dave Rooney part of the coaching staff.

Most recently, Ellen was named in the Republic of Ireland WU17 European Championship qualifying squad, where she lined up alongside current Treaty United teammate Madison McGuane.

Laurie Ryan – Treaty United Women Manager, commented, “Great to have Ellen move into the first team. She is a fantastic young talent who has shown real commitment and development both at club and international youth level. Her performances for Ireland’s U17s and with our Academy have made her promotion well earned. Ellen has the qualities we believe will serve her well in this next step of her career.”
