A special little girl from Abbeyfeale, County Limerick, is the namesake of Tesco Ireland’s new teddy bear, Ellie the Elephant. The ideal stocking filler costs just €5, with all proceeds going to Children’s Health Foundation Temple Street.

Earlier this year, little Ellie Collins entered a competition in Temple Street to name Tesco Ireland’s charity teddy bear. Ellie decided to name the toy after herself, completing her application with a drawing of her favourite creature – an elephant.

Ellie was born with kidney failure and has been through so much in her short life, beginning dialysis at just eight months old. In June 2021, Ellie‘s amazing mum Jackie donated a kidney to her daughter.

“When Ellie got to see Ellie the Elephant, her face lit up,” says mum Jackie.

“Since her transplant, we can really see the difference in her. She has been through so much, but still, everything is done with a smile on her face.”

Ellie‘s namesake elephant, made entirely from recycled materials, is available to buy in Tesco stores nationwide.

The supermarket giant has been a fundraising partner of Children’s Health Foundation Temple Street since 2014, donating over €6.5 million to date.

Children’s Health Foundation Temple Street Chief Executive, Denise Fitzgerald, thanks Tesco Ireland for their incredible support through the years.

“We are thrilled and so grateful for the fantastic Ellie the Elephant fundraiser this festive season. Tesco has made a hugely positive impact on the lives of sick children in Children’s Health Foundation Temple Street, raising vital funds to purchase a wide range of essential and life-saving equipment in the hospital, ” says Ms Fitzgerald.

“Temple Street never sleeps, and this Christmas we need your support more than ever. We encourage everyone to get involved, pick up an Ellie in their local Tesco store and make a real difference for sick children and their families.”
