Limerick teenager Emily Sheehy is donating fourteen inches of her hair to the Rapunzel Foundation, in an effort to raise funds for Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin (formerly Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital).
The Rapunzel Foundation, based in Waterford, is a charity that provides wigs to those living with hair loss.
Young Emily has created a GoFundMe fundraiser in advance of her brave haircut on Wednesday, January 5.
All donations will go to the Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin childhood cancer ward, a place the Sheehy family know all too well.
Emily’s younger brother received treatment there, following the discovery of a large tumour in his heart. Luckily, the tumour was benign, and this little boy has since recovered.
The Sheehy’s are very grateful for the support they received during their time in Crumlin, and now Emily is hoping to give something back.
In just 24 hours, the 13-year-old has raised over €1,000 for her chosen cause.
Villiers School on the North Circular Road praised student Emily’s selfless fundraising effort, saying, “We are so impressed with Form I student, Emily, who in conjunction with The Rapunzel Foundation is doing this fundraiser. Please support if you can – what a worthwhile new year’s resolution.”
Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin is the country’s largest paediatric hospital and primary centre of childhood cancer treatment. In 2019, just under 25,000 sick children were cared for as inpatients at the Crumlin hospital.
