Empower Hour is a Limerick based parenting support group without stigma for both Limerick and Clare audiences. It sees parents empowering each other, sharing knowledge and networking life skills.

The organisation offers various services for parents in need including workshops once a month in Angel Times on Thomas Street, a weekly radio show on Limerick Community Radio 99.9, a Podium for open contact, expert guest speakers and an online digital magazine that hosts a myriad of family well being experts from both Ireland and abroad.

The founders of Empower Hour, Saralee Cassidy and Ann McDywer, are both therapists and single parents themselves, who saw how difficult it was to become an empowered parent under life testing circumstances.

Saralee Cassidy said “We felt the same as single parents in the dark going through separation, the emotional and challenges of being alone and how Irish society didn’t have supports that were creating true empowerment for both single parents and couples in Limerick. So, we created Empower Hour.”

Both founders had life threatening illness in their families and overcame difficult circumstances such as Multiple Sclerosis and congenital heart disease. They aim to empower families through the difficulties and challenges faced in both single parenting, parenting and illness.

“I believe health and family health has to do with restoring joy and happiness,” said Saralee, adding “We would like to share what we have to empower others and show that it is possible to rise again with unconditional support and easy access to that support through many mediums of communication.”

Workshops that would ordinarily cost 30 to 50 euro by professionals can be accessed at 7.50 to 10 euro with Empower Hour. The support group also organises affordable wellness initiatives and events from a cooperative of therapists that makes family wellness affordable and easy to access in the community.

Empower Hour recently hosted NLP practitioner Patrick Mercie last Sunday morning on Limerick Community Radio 99.9, who spoke about the importance of communication in parenting and healthy relationships.  The chat was part of their weekly radio show every Sunday at 10:00 – 11:30 pm. The group’s next planned event is a yin yoga class with Grace Burton on March 14, between 7.30 – 9.30 pm in Angel Times, that aims to teach stress management and relaxation, and costs as little as 7.50 to 10 euros.
