Limerick native, Rachel Prior, known by her stage name Rachy P, one of the main performers at the fundraiser said, “I came up with the idea of hosting a busking fundraiser as I know Ann Enright, the Enable Community Fundraising Officer and wanted to help this charity who do invaluable work for the community in Limerick. Mikey O Doherty, an Enable Ireland service user is actually a friend of mine. I met him this year through events at Limerick Youth Service and he’s a great inspiring guy, so I just thought it would be nice to give back to them as they are building another premise’s in Castleconnell, so all this money will go towards it”. “They are a fantastic service and even Mikey has found the service amazing. Because it’s very inclusive, it doesn’t matter if you have a disability you can still follow your dream and do whatever you want to do in life and that’s kinda what enable Ireland is about. And it’s so important to follow your dream regardless of who you are, or whether you have a disability just do it anyway.” continues Rachel.
“I’ve been going to enable Ireland for the past 4 years, it completely changed my life. I’m in Mary I, I’m getting ready to get my degree, I’m living on my own, I’m very independent all thanks to Enable Ireland”, expresses Mikey O’ Doherty.
The fundraiser had an impressive line-up of acts, from David Idoih, Director of Limerick Gospel Choir and well known musical theatre performer Killian Fitzgerald.
All proceeds raised on the day will go directly to Enable Ireland Limerick and their plans for a new centre in Castleconnell.
