The Enable Ireland coffee morning fundraiser was a raging success this Wednesday, October 5 in Hook and Ladder.

The fundraiser was in aid of their highly anticipated new premise in Castleconnell, which is set to open early next year.

As the conversations flowed between the young and old, so did the array of hot drinks and treats to relish on this beautiful frosty morning.

The fundraised money will go towards “kitting” the new premise in Castleconnell and all the money raised this year in numerous fundraising events goes straight to Castleconnell, as what “is collected in Limerick stays in Limerick”, expressed Ann Enright, Enable Ireland.

“Hook and Ladder do it for us every year, this is their third year doing it for us. They also support us at Christmas they take our Christmas cards and do some classes as well with Children’s services.” continues Ann.

“Castleconnell is going to be a hub for Enable Ireland and eventually a respite unit as well. We are hoping to be able to give into Castleconnell, give back to the community. Hopefully we will be up and running by January.” expresses Nancy Geary, Line Manager for Enable Ireland.

Among the crowds gathered for the Enable Ireland coffee morning Fundraiser, 27-year-old Nicola Dore, who is a Irelands first female Para Powerlifter, has set up her own fundraiser supporting Enable Ireland in the coming weeks.

The Para Powerlifter has had cerebral palsy since birth will be doing a 24km wheelchair push from the Crescent Shopping Centre to her hometown of Kilcornan this October 22.

The young athlete who has represented Ireland at European and World levels for several competitions says: “I was inspired by my cousin’s friend he did 60 marathons in 60 days, its unique no one has ever done it before.”

The fundraiser is crucial for Nicola as these much-needed funds will go towards the various competitions she hopes to do in the future and to Enable Ireland.

Anyone interested in donating to this great cause can do so on Nicolas Go Fund Me page here.

The Limerick Panto Society have also nominated Enable Ireland as this years ‘Charity of the Year’.

“We give them 200 tickets to each of the fourteen shows to sell for the 28th of December and the 3rd of January and any money they raise will go directly to themselves.” Explains Damien Shaw, Limerick Panto Society.

Damien also explains how there is a raffle to take place and any proceeds will go directly to Enable Ireland.

This year’s show is the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs but as Damien explains, “it’s not your average seven dwarfs there’s a twist”.
