Limerick swimmer, Eoin Corby set an impressive 2:06.45 time to set the new Irish Senior Record in the 200m Breaststroke

Limerick swimmer, Eoin Corby reached a significant milestone in his career with an impressive 2:06.45 finish to set the new Irish Senior Record in the 200m Breaststroke at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships in Hungary.
The swimmer’s 2:06.45 time erased Uiseann Cooke’s 2021 record of 2:06.81 at a championships which has seen other Irish records broken by the talented up-and-coming athletes. Corby set his record finishing 6th in his heat, showing the quality of competition in world swimming.
Following the race, Corby said he was “very happy” having broken the record, saying, “Funnily enough I felt kind of weird in the warm-up and I just kind of put that aside. I knew I was training well coming into the competition so I just kind of focused on that, took that into the race and tried to race some of the lads beside me and I got the Irish Senior Record so I’m very happy with that.”
The 22-year-old National Centre Limerick Swimmer’s achievement added to a growing list of milestones reached for Irish athletes this week which has seen a total of nine Irish Senior Records and one Irish Junior Record broken over four days.
The Clarina man finished 17th overall in the event before taking to the water once again on Sunday where he finished 45th overall in the 50m Breaststroke heats.
It has been an impressive weekend for Limerick swimmers as on Sunday, double medal-winning Paralympian Róisín Ní Riain was announced as the RTÉ Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year adding to the list of achievements of Limerick athletes in 2024 which has seen a number of records broken as well as local athletes representing Ireland on the biggest stages.
