“More than a place, Saint-Malo is a memory made visible and this book is my love letter to it.” – Eric J Duhan

Limerick-born artist and writer Eric J Duhan has released a striking new illustrated memoir, Saint-Malo Revisited a heartfelt, painterly exploration of how his life in the walled French port city came to be.
Where he would eventually raise a family and built a creative home.
The book blends Duhan’s delicate, atmospheric watercolours with deeply personal reflections on himself, the city of Saint-Malo, its history, and its enduring place in his heart.
From crêperies on the ramparts and bustling markets to storm-lashed beaches and quiet island paths, Saint-Malo Revisited captures his soul and that of a city shaped by tides and time.
“This book began as a gift to my daughters, telling them of my first contact as a 19-year-old,” says Duhan, adding, “They were born in Saint-Malo, and I wanted to gather some memories, the textures, the little details of my life lived before the walls became home. But along the way, I realised it had become a tribute to change itself.”

Born into a family that gave Limerick his two brothers, Johnny (RIP), well known as a songwriter and poet and Michael, the sculptor of the Dockers iconic work on Limerick’s docks. Being one of the first intake into NIHE, now UL and having spent many years in the Mayo Gaeltacht of Tourmakeady he left Ireland out of economic necessity to follow a dream. Having lived in Saint-Malo for more than thirty years, Duhan brings a rare authenticity to the project. His background in fine art, paired with his passion for storytelling, results in a work that is as visually rich as it is emotionally resonant.
“It’s not a history book, not exactly,” he explains, “It’s a walk through seasons and sensations, the process of growing up and out of ‘normality’, the kind of thing you remember when you close your eyes. I think anyone who’s ever loved a place will find something familiar in these pages.”
‘Saint-Malo Revisited’ presents sketches and paintings of his artwork and brings to life Paris and Saint-Malo’s iconic landmarks and hidden corners alike, offering readers a painter’s perspective on memory, belonging, and change.
The book is available now through Amazon along with his “Druid who Whispered” trilogy and his work on Glenstal Abbey. Updates will be shared via his social media.
