Gateway to Education Limerick announces that it has been awarded €15,000 under the ESB Energy for Generations Fund to deliver its inclusive training initiative, “Open Doors: Inclusive Volunteer Training for Employment Pathways.”

This funding has supported the delivery of a practical, community-based training programme designed to empower individuals with disabilities and those facing barriers to employment through hands-on experience, structured learning, and real-world work practice.

Delivered from Gateway to Education’s charity shop and training spaces in Limerick, the programme focused on Step-by-step retail and storeroom training; Workplace readiness and confidence-building; Supported pathways from volunteering into employment; and Inclusive, person-centred learning environments.

The ESB-funded “Open Doors” training was implemented through Gateway to Education Limerick’s established “I Can Work” project model. This ensured high-quality delivery within a proven, inclusive training framework, allowing participants to benefit from structured supports, practical work experience, and clear progression pathways.

By embedding the programme within this model, Gateway to Education maximised both impact and sustainability, building on existing expertise while expanding access to employment-focused training.

Speaking about the programme, CEO Suzanne Roche said, “We are incredibly grateful to the ESB Energy for Generations Fund for supporting this work. This funding has allowed us to create meaningful opportunities for people who want to work, contribute, and be part of their community, but need the right support to get there. We are already seeing the impact in confidence, skills, and progression.”

The programme aligns with the ESB Energy for Generations Fund’s commitment to supporting communities and improving access to employment opportunities.

Gateway to Education Limerick continues to work with participants from a wide range of backgrounds, including referrals from NLN, Headways, Employability services, schools, and community organisations, providing inclusive pathways into training, skills development, and employment.
