Limerick Youth Service hosting training workshops for European Youth Week

To mark European Youth Week, Limerick Youth Service is hosting an interactive information and training workshop to the Northside Youth Space, Ballynanty, Limerick on Tuesday next, May 2nd from 11am-1pm.
Delivered by Leargas, the workshop is suitable for youth and community organisations, schools and sports groups who would like to know more about the European Voluntary Service programme. The European Voluntary Service (EVS) allows young people (18-30yrs) an opportunity to volunteer with youth, community, educational and sporting groups in Europe for a period of between 2 weeks and 10 months.
The workshop will explain the European Voluntary Service programme, its benefits to young people and organisations while emphasising the particular features of the programme. While Irish people can volunteer overseas, local organisations can host volunteers abroad thus gaining access to a broad range of skills and knowledge for European Youth Week.
The EVS programme is also a great tool to promote solidarity, challenge prejudice and learn about new cultural and social beliefs. With a limited number of places available, interested parties are asked to contact Dermot Troy at [email protected] or 061-412444. A member of Youth Work Ireland, Limerick Youth Service remains committed to supporting and encouraging young people to be active participants in shaping their futures.
Limerick Youth Service was founded in 1973 under the joint patronage of the Bishops of Limerick. Over the years, this voluntary organisation has grown into the country’s largest local Youth Service, offering a range of personal and social development and recreational opportunities to young people throughout Limerick City and County. The success of the Youth Service in responding to the needs of young people lies with the organisation’s founder and inspiration Sr. Joan Bowles. The history and story of Limerick Youth Service and Sr. Joan Bowles can be read in the excellent book by Walter Forde, “Joan’s People; Limerick Youth Service 1973 – 2003.”
