From Murder to Miscarriage- the tales our bodies tell from beyond the grave. This talk will introduce the audience to the subject of osteoarchaeology, itself a sub discipline of archaeology. Human remains are often recovered unexpectedly in both rural and urban settings. Careful analysis of the bone can provide fascinating information regarding the individual’s lifestyle and that of the wider community.

Identifying the diseases, traumas, diet and life expectancy of past populations provides a richer understanding of the real lives our ancestors lived. And then, there are the interesting graves……

Caoimhe Ní Thóibín MA, MSc Licence Eligible Osteoarchaeologist working in the field of Irish Archaeology since 2000. She has worked on rural, urban and wetland sites ranging from the Mesolithic to Post Medieval periods. Her experience includes state infrastructure developments, private and commercial construction related archaeology and research projects. She operates under the guidance of the National Monument Service in the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and the National Museum of Ireland.
