National Famine Commemoration

May 17 @ 11:15 AM 1:00 PM

The National Famine Commemoration 2025 event will take place at Kilmallock Famine Memorial Park on Saturday 17th May.

Limerick City and County Council is honoured to host this state event, which is led by the Department of Arts, Culture, Communication, Sport and Media. Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland will officiate at this ceremony.

The historic town of Kilmallock, with its rich heritage and enduring spirit, offers a fitting backdrop for reflecting on one of the most pivotal and painful chapters of our nation’s history.

The Famine not only reshaped the Irish landscape but also left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of generations.

The Kilmallock Famine Memorial Park, the site for this year’s National Famine Commemoration, is built on the very burial ground where famine victims were laid to rest in mass graves.
