Permanent Impermanent Images: An Art Exhibition by Holger Baehr.

October 10 @ 10:00 AM 5:00 PM

Permanent Impermanent Images: An Art Exhibition by Holger Baehr.

He has stated that Ireland—its beauty, vast skies, and immense countryside— has made him a painter. Only here did he begin painting seriously, about a decade ago, and since then art has grown into the central part of his life and identity. Ireland has given Holger both subject and spirit. The power of its skies, the restless light over the Shannon, and the endless fields and boglands have inspired him in ways that no other place ever has. His paintings are, above all, an attempt to capture this beauty and atmosphere, to share with viewers near and far the quiet majesty and emotional depth of Ireland.

Holger works in acrylic on deep canvas, often using a process of layering and sketching paint. He usually develop several paintings simultaneously, creating a natural harmony between them. His work is rooted in memory, rather than direct observation: journeys through Ireland and Germany provide impressions that he later transform on canvas. He simplify scenes into abstract forms, focusing on light, atmosphere, and the elemental qualities of land and sky.

His aim is to evoke in the viewer an unexpected emotional connection—a remembered place, a fleeting moment, a sense of meditative stillness.  Critics have described his work as continuing the German landscape tradition of Carl Rottmann, who lived from 1797 to 1850, while also being distinctly contemporary exhibited in Ireland, Germany, the UK, the USA, and beyond, including: the Chimera Gallery (Mullingar); Mannheimer Kunstverein (Germany); Galerie Peter Zimmermann (Germany);  the Paul Kane Gallery (Dublin) and  ARTIQ London.

Permanent Impermanent Images an art exhibition by Holger Baehr will be on display in Limerick Museum from Thursday 9th until Friday 31st October.
