The Man of Destiny

July 18 @ 8:00 PM 10:00 PM

Presented by Goose Chase Theatre & Weird Gravy Theatre The Man of Destiny, by George Bernard Shaw, follows the charismatic figure of Napoleon Bonaparte, brilliantly portrayed by a talented cast.

George Bernard Shaw’s The Man of Destiny comes to the Belltable Theatre on Thursday 18th July, courtesy of local theatre groups Goose Chase Theatre and Weird Gravy.

The play is a historical farce, following Napoleon Bonaparte (Pádraig Lohan) in a battle of wits with a mysterious woman (Tara Monaghan), an idiotic lieutenant (James Corr), a sycophantic innkeeper (Ronan Deegan) – and his own ego! This production is directed by Luke Frawley (Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, and The Weird Gravy Showcase), with dramaturgy by Dr David Clare and stage management by Seoirse Byrne.

Showcasing Shaw’s signature blend of razor-sharp wit and acerbic social commentary, the story delves into the complex psyche of the infamous military commander, as he grapples with love, power, and his own legacy, and offers a nuanced exploration of human ambition and the fickle nature of fate.

Goose Chase Theatre and Weird Gravy are two collectives of Limerick-based theatre-makers. Goose Chase Theatre specialise in comedy, farce and light entertainment, while Weird Gravy emphasise emerging local theatre-makers. These two groups bring The Man of Destiny back to Limerick following a performance at the 2024 Shaw Conference (“Bernard Shaw’s Ireland: An International Perspective”) at the Museum of Literature in Dublin.

Don’t miss your chance to experience a classical comedy by one of Ireland’s most influential historical playwrights.
