University of Limerick Orchestra Presents a Monumental Afternoon of Symphonic Masterworks with Special Guests from Mary Immaculate College
Limerick, Ireland — The University of Limerick Orchestra is delighted to announce its upcoming concert on Sunday, 26th April 2026 at 2pm, taking place in the stunning Redemptorist Church, South Circular Road, Limerick. This powerful programme brings together some of the most iconic works in the orchestral repertoire, led by conductor Michael Dooley, and featuring the Mary Immaculate College Community Choir under the direction of Dr. Paul Collins.
The concert will also showcase the extraordinary talents of organist Peter Barley in one of the most celebrated symphonic works ever written.
Programme
Mendelssohn — Hebrides Overture (Fingal’s Cave) A vivid musical seascape capturing the drama and mystery of Scotland’s coastal caves.
Holst — The Planets: Mars & Jupiter Two of Holst’s most electrifying movements: the relentless force of Mars and the expansive, uplifting majesty of Jupiter.
Saint‑Saëns — Symphony No. 3 “Organ Symphony” Featuring Peter Barley, this monumental work blends orchestral brilliance with the grandeur of the pipe organ, creating a breathtaking sonic experience.
Special Guests
The Mary Immaculate College Community Choir, directed by Dr. Paul Collins, joins the University of Limerick Orchestra for this performance, adding vocal richness and artistic depth to the afternoon’s programme. Their collaboration highlights the strong musical partnership between Limerick’s academic and community arts institutions.
