Fab Lab Limerick Will Hold Two Kids Summer Camps in July

Fab Lab Limerick will be holding a 4-day children’s Summer Camp, where kids will get to explore their imagination and creativity using digital technologies, like 3D printing, and laser cutting and much more.

There will be two Summer Camps, one for kids aged 7-9 years old and another for kids aged 9 to 12 years old.

During the camp, the kids will build digitally fabricated structures with paper maché, cardboard and other lightweight materials. They will also be able to make 3D doodles, get the chance print out on the 3D printers at the Fab Lab, and take home their very own design.

Then, with the Laser Cutter, they will create custom frames for the craft art, toys and jigsaws. Each piece can be painted and decorated after to make it unique and personal to everyone’s style. Each child will learn and try out techniques that can translate 2D drawings into 3D objects.

They will also make basic electronic circuits using LEDs and motors to learn about conductivity, resistance and other basic electronic principles. Once everybody understands the basics of electronics they will be able to customise and build their very own robots to bring home

On the final day, the kids will turn into real designers, makers and innovators. They will use everything that they have learned during the week and incorporate it into our final project.

By translating an idea into an item they will learn about the process of fabrication through design and making. At the end of the day, each child will have its own ‘real like from the shop’ product made ready to be packed as a cool present!

The 7-9-year-old camp will be running from July 11th until July 14th while the 9-12-year-old camp will run from July 18th until July 21st. Both camps will be from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm each day. All materials will be provided by Fab Lab Limerick and each child will be able to take home their individual projects.

Unfortunately, there are no spaces left in the 9-12-year-old camp but there are still many places left in the 7-9-year-old camp. For more information please click here
