The match took place on Saturday, May 28 at 5 pm at the Turners Cross Stadium in Cork and was a hard-fought battle between the two teams for the title.

Fairview Rangers had a fair battle ahead of them, with St Micheal’s bringing a star-studded side even after the talented Jimmy Carr was sent off in the semi-final.

While St Micheal’s fought long and hard during the match it wasn’t enough as the Fairview Rangers pushed for victory, displaying consistent energy and skills throughout the match.

In the 34th minute of the match, Fairview Rangers player Darragh Rainsford made space on the wing and allowed Conor Coughlan to score from close range.

By halftime, Fairview Rangers was in the lead with one goal over St Michael’s, who wasn’t ready to give up just yet.

In the second half, St Micheal’s was ready to bounce back but after player Mark Slattery’s header from a corner kick went narrowly wide of the goal.

For a period, however, St Micheal’s had a grip on the game but was ended when Fairview Rangers Jefferey Judge passed the path of Rainsford who slotted home to ease the pressure from St Micheal’s.

St Micheal’s didn’t stand a chance, with Fairview striking again – Coughlan outshone near the end, weaving past his opponents before running up to support Judge to fire home.

By the end of the game, the score saw Fairview score 3-0 and win their 8th provincial title and first in 13 years, a huge win for the team.

“Congratulations to Fairview Rangers winners of this year’s McCarthy Insurance Group Munster Junior Cup following their 3-0 victory over St Micheal’s at Turners Cross. Fabulous game of football played on a beautiful day at Munster Football Association HQ. Thanks to all for travelling and safe journey home,” the Munster Football Association commented on the win.

That’s not all for the team, who will compete against Pike Rovers FC at the Regional United F.C in the last league game in Dooradoyle. If they win that, they will play against Pike Rovers FC again for the Lawson Final.
