Falling in Love with Frida at Dance Limerick

International performance artist and choreographer Caroline Bowditch brings her beautiful, award-winning work “Falling in Love with Frida” to Dance Limerick on Friday 11 September at 8pm.  This intimate, witty and compelling performance explores the life, loves and legacy of painter Frida Kahlo (1907-1954).  Tickets €12/€10 from www.dancelimerick.ie Suitable for audiences over 16yrs.

Largely remembered for her art, particularly the iconic images she created that explicitly document her lived experience of disability, Frida Kahlo is rarely remembered or acknowledged as a disabled artist.  “Falling in Love with Frida” is a celebration: a reclaiming of a disabled artist, a love-like obsession and an enquiry into how we shape what we are remembered for and how much we can really control others’ memories of us.

Fresh from Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2015 and a prestigious Herald Angel Award at Edinburgh 2014, “Falling in Love with Frida” continues to move, engage and entertain audiences in equal measure.  The show exposes many little-known facts about Frida Kahlo.  Where affinities and parallels are drawn between the creator and the subject, happy distractions are employed and a tale of Kahlo as ‘the great concealer’ is skilfully revealed by and through powerful yet fragile bodies.

Creator Caroline Bowditch, herself a disabled artist, says “The journey of making this piece… has been full of adventure, joy, laughter and tears. I invite you to join me around the yellow table in celebration of one of the finest women that has ever lived”.
The show will be performed by Caroline Bowditch, Welly O’Brien and Nicole Guarino.

“An hour of remarkable beauty and joyful humanity… deliciously wry, humorously conversational and disarmingly frank” Five Stars – The Herald
