Seven leading travel experts from Finland have been taking part in a fact-finding visit to Limerick and Ireland over the weekend – as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland. The group flew to Dublin from Helsinki with Norwegian Airlines.

The aim of the visit was to showcase the Wild Atlantic Way and to encourage Finlands seven leading travel experts to extend the Ireland content of their programmes or to include Ireland for the first time in their programmes. The visit was also a great opportunity to highlight ease of access from Finland to Ireland.

Their itinerary included the Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens in Kildare; Muckross House and Gardens in Kerry; King John’s Castle in Limerick; as well as a guided tour of Cork city. At King John’s Castle, they enjoyed a guided tour followed by a lunch.

Aileen Hickey, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for the Nordic Region, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite this group of Finnish tour operators and travel agents to visit Limerick and Ireland. Fact-finding visits like this are an important part of our annual programme of promotions in the Nordic Region, to increase awareness of Ireland among influential travel professionals and help secure a greater share of their business.”

Tourism Ireland is the organisation responsible for promoting the island of Ireland overseas as a leading holiday destination. With tourism being Ireland’s largest indigenous industry, the island welcomed approximately 10.5 million overseas visitors, delivering revenue of about €5.4 billion.

Fáilte Ireland is the National Tourism Development Authority. Their role is to support the tourism industry and work to sustain Ireland as a high-quality and competitive tourist destination. They provide a range of practical business supports to help tourism businesses better manage and market their products and services.
