On April 15, 2015, the Melling family tragically lost baby girl Lola Jane Nagle to meningitis. Ever since then, Lola’s family have organised many fundraising events to bring more awareness to meningitis and to raise funds for an amazing charity, ACT for Meningitis. Their work has helped save lives and has made a real difference in the lives of those affected by meningitis in Ireland. Following the success of Lola’s Ball that took place in 2016 and 2017, Leah Melling, Lola’s sister, has organised a Firewalk for Lola in aid of ACT for Meningitis. Leah told ilovelimerick “After Lola’s passing and how much it affected myself and my family, I did not want another family to go through what we went through. The guys from ACT for meningitis were so good to us that I wanted to give back to them, while also raising awareness for meningitis and keeping Lola’s memory alive.”

ACT for Meningitis is an incredible charity which aims to raise awareness and educate society about the signs and symptoms of meningitis while offering free support services in Ireland to those affected by the disease. Their support service is tailored to the needs of the individual /family to find the most appropriate and beneficial service for them. Speaking on behalf of ACT for Meningitis, CEO Siobhan Carroll says “We are most grateful to Leah and her committee for their continued support of ACT.  Over the last 3 years, they have worked hard to raise life-saving awareness and essential funds in Lola’s memory, funds which have helped us to provide free support services to families in Ireland who have been affected by meningitis. ACT is delighted to be the chosen charity to receive the proceeds from this exciting event and we look forward to seeing you all there on the night.”

On the day of Firewalk for Lola, there will be a two-hour audience interactive seminar with event partner and motivational speaker Brian Moore. Brian will prepare everyone for the fire walk, by teaching the audience how to let go of their self-imposed limitations & release their stresses and fears. Once the sun goes down, the firefighters will prepare the fire pathway outside. Following the firewalk, all participants and their friends and family are invited back inside for the After Party with a DJ, finger food and a well-earned drink!

Firewalk for Lola will take place Sunday, June 16 at 7 pm. Greenhills Hotel & Leisure Centre is proudly hosting the event.

All participants are asked to commit to a minimum fundraising target of €150. Everyone will also receive a TeamACT sports top, sponsorship cards and an online sponsorship page from charity ACT for Meningitis.
