Flamenco Dance and Music classes are launching in Limerick. Luna Celta in collaboration with Encuentro Flamenco Limerick, wishes to kindly invite residents of the Limerick City to the Flamenco Dance and Music classes to be launched on September 3  at the historic St. John’s Pavilion in the Limerick City Centre.

Luna Celta in collaboration with Encuentro Flamenco Limerick, wishes to kindly invite residents of the Limerick City to the Flamenco Dance and Music classes to be launched on September 3  at the historic St. John’s Pavilion in the Limerick City Centre.

Luna Celta is founded by Yovanna Torres Blanco, a Mexican Irish Flamenco, and Mexican folk dancer. She has a high passion for Flamenco dance.

Talking about dancing and her career of being a dancer, Yovanna said: “Dance is an international language. Through dance we tell stories, unite people, practice rituals, challenge stereotypes, break archaic social conventions or even protest against injustice. “

“I am a firm believer in social change through dance, music, and art in general. My principal art forms are Irish, flamenco and Mexican folk dance and I am trying to make a difference in my corner of the world through their performance, teaching and enjoyment.” she added.

Passion, creativity and talent are just the first steps to start dancing but it is necessary to learn, be guided and inspired by the correct people in order to develop their own skills and share the knowledge with others.

“Since a few months ago I am a Limerick City resident and I can’t think of a better way to express my gratitude with such a welcoming city than sharing a bit of my culture and what I enjoy doing the most. I firmly believe that starting a flamenco movement could help broaden the musical horizons and the cultural offer in the city and build a bridge between cultures.” Yovanna said.

Harry Minogue, the owner and director of Encuentro Flamenco Limerick,has the same enthusiasm in Irish, Spanish and Mexican culture which is the same as Yovanna. They are both well versed exponents of the deep musical tradition, having taught and spread the art in a number of different venues and platforms, both within their own countries and on a more local basis within the Midwest of Ireland.

“ We have designed a seminar platform based on the proven concepts in explaining this complex oral tradition, from a basic harmony, functional rhythm and improvisation perspective.” said Ms. Torres Blanco.
