The Foróige Creative Minds group played up a storm at The Square, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick for Today FM – The Big Busk – supporting the Journey Home for Focus Ireland, Friday 10 th of March. Focus Ireland aims to tackle the issue of homelessness through the powerful medium of music, art and performance.

Creative Minds is a Foròige Creative Learning Hub initiative for the young people from the West Limerick area. The Foròige Creative Learning Hub is based in Newcastle West, Market Yard. There are 18 young people involved in this initiative, aged between 14-18 years old. This initiative was developed by young people for creative meet-ups. They meet once a week for four hours to work on creative projects. It’s a space to work on individual and collective projects with Foróige staff and County Limerick Music Generation tutors. The Creative Learning Hub is made up of 60 youth and 10 adult Co-coordinators who all form part of the Hub. Everyone learns from each other and works together, sharing skills and knowledge.

Young people have been involved in all aspects of planning, performing and event management. They have been working on a number of audio and digital technology projects, busking is one of many. It’s a great opportunity for the young people to improve their confidence and bring a smile to people’s faces,” said Elaine Williams, Foróige West Limerick Youth Initiative Youth Co-ordinator.

The young people have received the best feedback from people, businesses and the local community. “They are such creative young people with amazing ideas which are enjoyed by all ages,” said Justina Cepenaite, Foróige
