Free Limerick 2020 Print Workshops for Children and Families

Limerick 2020 will present a series of free print workshops for children and families in Ormston House on the 1 and 2 of April 2016.

Children and their parents are invited to join Limerick 2020 to brainstorm, dream up ideas, draw, and create mixed-media woodblock prints in a fun, open and creative environment.
As Limerick 2020 enters the second stage of the bid to be designated European Capital of Culture 2020, the focus of the bid is understanding Limerick’s place in Europe. The Limerick 2020 bid team want to hear from Limerick children and families about their ideas on culture and identity from a European perspective and through these artistic processes understand how they would imagine Limerick’s future as a European city.
On July 12 2016, the European Capital of Culture jury will visit Limerick City. Sheila Deegan, Limerick 2020, said; ‘When they are here, we would like to convey visually the ideas, concepts and dreams of Limerick and her citizens, from the output created by children and families in the print workshops.  The visual celebration of Limerick will be part of the ways the jury will encounter Limerick and the ideas of future generations’.

In addition to this, Piquant Media will be on hand to document the workshops, creating a short video and series of images that showcases and celebrates the voices of Limerick’s citizens.
This creative exploration of culture and identity will also result in an exhibition in Ormston House, Limerick city where friends, family and the citizens of Limerick will see the work and processes of the workshops, as well as the dreams and hopes our children have for the future of Limerick, Ireland and Europe.

This series of print workshops are facilitated by leading print artists Emer Casey, Kate O’Shea and Eoin Barry. There will be two workshops suitable for primary school children on Friday the 1st April between 10-12noon and 2-4pm. Then on Saturday 2nd April there will be a family workshop where parents can also get involved in the creativity and printing between 11am-1pm. The family workshop is available for one or two parents (or guardians) plus one or more primary school child.

The workshops are FREE but places are limited and advance booking is essential.
