A Friends Membership allows members of the public to continue supporting the Hunt Museum during and after the COVID-19 crisis.

Support the survival of The Hunt Museum with a Friends Membership

By I Love Limerick Correspondent Sophia DiBattista

In a recent message from the Hunt Museum and its staff, they have announced their continued delay on reopening until July 20. Until that time, they have provided numerous resources online available to all members of the public and hope to gather more support from potential Friends of the Hunt Museum through a Friends Membership.

The Hunt Museum has been a Limerick staple since 1978. Displays showing off original artefacts and exhibitions, including some of its own collections and those of National and International significance, have been garnering the public’s attention from the beginning of its establishment. It is a hub of culture, education and enjoyment.

Best Costume Goes To

The Hunt Museums exhibition “Best Costume Goes To” has been added to their online resources and includes a virtual tour.

Since the Covid-19 quarantine period began, however, the museum had to temporarily shut down. Despite this closure, the museum did not allow this pandemic to stop them from functioning and reaching out to people of every age.

With the help of its online exhibitions, the Hunt has been thriving through a new medium for its displays. Virtual tours of “Best Costume Goes To…” are featured on its website as well.

The museum has also started up a series of colouring books, all available to download free of charge. These range from the Roman age, Vikings, jewellery and much more. Families with children or at-home teachers can use these as a way to both connect with their young ones and promote learning outside the classroom environment. Additional resources include online jigsaw puzzles and craft videos for anyone to complete.

To continue providing such services and tools for all to enjoy, the Hunt has reached out to members of the public asking them to consider a Friends Membership. In the letter, the Friends Office said, “A Friends of the Hunt Museum Membership directly supports projects such as The Three Muses, a joint educational programme for primary schools with Limerick Museum and Limerick City Gallery and our close relationship with Limerick Mental Health Association (LMHA), with whom we are creating a Hunt Museum in a Garden. We also have a new project with LMHA to brighten up one of the laneways in Limerick using the Copper Repoussé techniques taught by a member of the Friends to LMHA groups.”

“At this time membership is more important than ever to us.  It will allow us to continue to operate and produce online resources as well as prepare for a summer of activities that comply with the necessary social distancing measures.  So it is at this extraordinary time we ask you to consider taking out a membership to support The Hunt Museum and our ability to continue to work remotely for the community until we are open again on July 20th,” the Office said.

With times being difficult, it is imperative for people to support organisations and establishments likes the Hunt Museum. To help the cause, you can take out a Friends Membership by contacting the Friends Office on [email protected] or 0851535732.
