A fundraiser has been set up under Eimear McCartney and Stacey Booth of the Dance Academy Limerick under the name FunFotoFundraiser in order to help Limerick Animal Welfare build the new practice at their sanctuary.

The fundraiser consisted of a competition where participants had the choice of sharing photos of their furry friends to be in the chance of winning an incredible pet-themed hamper. The competition consisted of various categories with each photo category having a winner including best dressed, best sleeping position, best friends and best nature shot.

Although the competition has since closed, FunFotoFundraiser will be keeping their fundraiser open in hopes of raising more money towards the €25,000 that Limerick Animal Welfare so desperately needs for their new clinic. The fundraiser has already surpassed its goal of €5,000, however, the event organisers have hopes of raising more donations for this amazing cause.

Speaking on behalf of the fundraiser, organiser Eimear McCartney commented, “The idea for the FunFotoFundraiser came about as a way to raise much-needed funds for LAW and also comply with current Covid-19 regulations. We both have dogs adopted from LAW and Stacey does a lot of fostering for them so we know the importance of the work they do. They are currently fundraising to build a veterinary clinic at their sanctuary, the cost of which will exceed €20,000. We wanted to help out and set ourselves a goal of raising €5,000 that they could put towards the cost of the vet clinic. Having their own clinic would mean their travel time to vets around Limerick would be greatly reduced and animals in their care could get veterinary work carried out on-site.

Limerick Animal Welfare has been functioning since 1983 and over the last 36 years, have rehomed thousands of animals. The organisation depends on the funding of the people of Limerick and a yearly grant from the Department of Agriculture to stay functioning. Limerick Animal Welfare can at any one-time care for up to 200 animals including cat’s, kittens, horses, dogs, puppies, goats, chickens, rabbits and occasionally exotic animals.

Eimear added, “We decided to hold a photography competition where people could enter photos of their pets under 10 different categories, along with making a donation to our GoFundMe page. We set up the Facebook and Instagram pages to share the photos and local judges chose the winning photo for each category. There were some fantastic photos sent in which are still available to view on our social media pages. We have reached our goal of €5,000 but the work LAW do is never-ending, much like their bills! So, anything extra we could raise would be a huge bonus.”
