Lá Spraoi na Leanaí – Fun through Irish at Mary Immaculate College

As part of Bliain na Gaeilge 2018 Mary Immaculate College is delighted to host Lá Spraoi na Leanaí  – Fun through Irish, a free event for all the family to enjoy together on Sunday, February 11.

Whether you have a budding builder, musician, artist, dancer or baker, Lá Spraoi na Leanaí has something for your child. From Brící Spraoi (Giant Building Blocks) to cupcake decorating this special event offers children the chance to speak Irish in a fun-filled environment and for parents to find out more about the supports and resources available to help them give their children a love and appreciation for the Irish language and Irish culture.

According to Dr Róisín Ní Ghairbhí, Department of Irish, MIC, Lá Spraoi na Leanaí will be a “wonderful opportunity for children to experience the joy of getting to know the Irish language in a creative and fun way”.

“Mary Immaculate College has always had a proud tradition in promoting the Irish language, not only in the college itself but among the local community. Lá Spraoi na Leanaí is a unique opportunity for parents with an interest in giving the gift of Irish to their children to learn about the many resources available to help them. This event is a wonderful celebration of a unique language and culture that is available to all,” she said.

Parents who have little or no Irish need not be nervous however as the event welcomes everyone and all will have the opportunity to find out what is happening in the Irish language world in Limerick.

In addition to the giant building blocks, there will be face-painting, workshops on sean-nós dancing, arts and crafts, an Irish language book and toy fair and cupcake decorating – all as Gaeilge! The event is especially suitable for children from toddlers up to age eight.

Lá Spraoi na Leanaí is being held as part of Bliain na Gaeilge 2018, a year-long celebration of the Irish language organised by Conradh na Gaeilge, an organisation with deep roots in Limerick.

Lá Spraoi na Leanaí takes place in Mary Immaculate College on Sunday, February 11 from 12 – 4 pm. Entry is free but booking is essential. To reserve your places simply email [email protected] or sign up via the Facebook page ‘Spraoi 125’.  Refreshments will be provided.  Please note children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
