Minister Patrick O’Donovan said, “This funding will support upgrades to FET buildings across Limerick, including essential maintenance, modern equipment, digital upgrades and greener, more energy-efficient facilities.”

Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (ETB) is to benefit from part of the €39 million funding announced by Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science James Lawless TD and Minister of State Marian Harkin TD, which will be distributed to the country’s 16 ETBs.

Limerick and Clare ETB is to receive €2.3 million through the funding announced for the fourth quarter of 2025, bringing the total received through the fund for the region to €3.48 million from the grant programme.

Speaking today, Minister Lawless said, “I am very pleased to announce the expansion of these funding streams to the ETBs to support continued energy efficiency measures, ongoing capital investment in the FET estate and the provision of specialist equipment to support the upskilling of the construction, MedTech and other sectors nationally.

“My Department continues to provide significant resources to support our Further Education and Training Sector in offering the best facilities and equipment to its students and staff.

“These Devolved Capital Grants demonstrates my Department’s confidence in the ETBs to effectively manage their devolved funding and respond to their most pressing capital needs within their respective regions. This expanded funding will allow ETBs to prioritise maintenance and upgrade works across their existing FET estate ensuring service provision and value for money while enhancing the overall FET learning environment”

In addition to the standard Devolved Capital Grant, today’s announcement provides an additional €8 million for the Green Devolved Capital Grant for 2025 and an increased allocation of €12 million for 2026 to support the ETBs in the delivery of energy efficiency and decarbonisation targets for Further Education and Training buildings.

On the announcement, Minister Patrick O’Donovan said, “This funding will support upgrades to FET buildings across Limerick, including essential maintenance, modern equipment, digital upgrades and greener, more energy-efficient facilities.

“It’s about backing local learners, apprentices and workers with the skills and spaces they need for the future.”

The funding will support small-scale building works, maintenance, health and safety upgrades, ICT improvements, and energy efficiency measures across Further Education and Training facilities. The green funding will also assist Limerick and Clare ETB in meeting national energy efficiency and decarbonisation targets, supporting sustainable, modern learning environments for learners, staff and communities across the region.
