Official Gaelscoil an Raithin opening celebrated in their first official school

The grand opening of the Gaelscoil an Raithin took place yesterday, June 21st at 9 am in their new state of the art building. To start off the celebrations, Bishop Brendan Leahy along with principle Michelle Ní Fhátharta, vice principle Imelda Uí Shomacháin and a few selected students cut the ribbon, officially opening the school.

The idea for a Gaelscoil in Raheen started in 2002, however, it started out in a temporary setting in the Garryowen Rugby club in 2003. Over the last 15 years, the school has grown into a thriving and supportive community, for children to grow and be nurtured for. The school is a Gaelscoil and all subjects are taught through the medium of Irish. They moved into the new school in September 2017. The school is situated in the beautiful area of Mungret within walking distance of Mungret park and the local church.

Now is the time to show their appreciation for the new space as they show off the many talents of the children within their care.

On the day there will be Irish traditional music, song, and dance as well as some more contemporary twists to some songs you might already know and all as Gaeilge. Each class from junior infants up to sixth class will perform on the day as each child adds to the school environment. Each teacher has worked very hard preparing for this day and are all very proud of the children in their class and the school as a whole. As it is a Gaelscoil they feel very strongly about the Irish language and urge everyone to use whatever cúpla focal they have. We look forward to showcasing what a wonderful inclusive learning environment we have created with our distinguished guests on Thursday.
