Limerick City and County Council to host free Gardening for Biodiversity Webinar

Gardening for Biodiversity is a free webinar to be hosted by Limerick City and County Council and presented by Juanita Browne of the National Biodiversity Data Centre.

Limerick City and County Council to host free Gardening for Biodiversity Webinar

Limerick City and County Council is to host a webinar on Gardening for Biodiversity. The webinar will highlight the simple things we can all do to make our gardens, no matter how big or small, more attractive for wildlife.

The varied living conditions in your garden, from hedges and walls to ponds, grassy areas, and trees, offer potential food and shelter for our native biodiversity. Inviting birds, butterflies, bees, wildflowers, and trees into your own garden won’t just help the planet, it will help you too!

Since the restrictions to combat the spread of Covid-19 were introduced wildlife, in all its shapes and sounds has had a chance to flourish. With fewer vehicles on the roads, and with more ‘down’ time on their hands, people have had a chance to hear the birds singing, wander as the bees continue to be busy about their business and see how their gardens can be home to a whole ecosystem.

To help capitalise on this renewed acquaintance with nature, Limerick City and County Council is hosting this special webinar on Thursday, May 28 from 8 pm until 8.45 pm.

The webinar will be presented by Juanita Browne of the National Biodiversity Data Centre and will introduce you to the wonderful Gardening for Biodiversity Booklet produced by Juanita in association with local authority heritage officers.

Juanita will also be able to answer any questions you might have on making your garden a wildlife haven.

This is a European Green Leaf event to mark Limerick City’s designation as European Green Leaf City 2020. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
