Garryowen Lions Wooden Spoon Event

Garryowen Lions Wooden Spoon Event.

The Garryowen Lions in collaboration with the Daughters of Charity Disability Support Services in Limerick, will host this year’s International Wooden Spoon Tag Rugby Festival for adults and children with intellectual disabilities. The Event takes place on Saturday 11 June in Dooradoyle.

This will be a super event and all are welcome to attend. There are 22 Teams with 350 Players taking part. The adult teams are all associated with their respective clubs similar to Garryowen FC and the U 15 teams come predominantly from the UK and are part of a school team. There will be approximately 1000 families/supporters who will attend the event also.  In 2015 this event took place in Shropshire in England.

John O Callaghan is co-ordinator on the event and he is looking for 30-40 Volunteers who could assist on the Saturday with Logistics, Parking, Catering etc.  If you can offer your time to support this great event, please contact John on: 087 2373291

Friday 10 June from 5 p.m. teams to visit the venue and familiarize with the Club and practice tag rugby between 5.30 and 6.30 pm. Club bar facilities will be available.

Saturday 11 June 10 am tournament briefing for all teams coaches and at 0930 am tournament commences using all three club pitches.  A total of 6 matches can be running concurrently and last 15 minutes. Munster Rugby Development Officers will assist with running the matches.

This event in the past 2 years has been very enjoyable and successful for all involved.  It provides an opportunity for Garryowen FC and Limerick City to showcase its hospitality, love of rugby and promotion of sport and community facilities for persons with special needs.

Please support this great event, either as a Volunteer or by attending the event on the day.

Fundraising for the event is set to take place in the Crescent Shopping Centre Friday June 3, all donations are welcome.
