Gateway to Education Limerick receive supports to expand online presence

Local charity Gateway to Education Limerick (GTEL) has welcomed new support from Community Finance Ireland.

An educational support charity, GTEL offer a range of programmes to those at home and abroad, including adult education programmes, the Read to Grow project (sending educational resources to Africa) and the School Book Voucher Scheme, which helps families to purchase schoolbooks at discount prices.

The charity also runs a second-hand book, clothing and household store on Wickham Street. The shop helps to finance GTEL projects.

New support from Community Finance Ireland, a charity and community finance system, will help LGE boost its social media reach.

Paul Goodwin, GTEL assistant manager, told I Love Limerick, “This support will be massive for us because nowadays, you have to interact with social media to get yourself or your brand out there. Social media is something we have been consciously planning to improve.”

Established in 1995, Community Finance Ireland supports local communities and drives social impact through sports, community projects, faith-based groups, and social enterprises.

“GTEL is a small local charity, so hopefully, Community Finance Ireland’s kind support will help us to get our story out there,” says Mr Goodwin.

Gateway to Education Limerick was founded in 2012 by Suzanne Roche in response to the increasing costs associated with a new school year, such as books and uniforms. Suzanne began collecting used school books and clothing, selling them for a much-reduced rate. Since then, GTEL has expanded into other charitable avenues, growing from strength to strength.

“GTEL work to relieve financial pressures on families throughout each school term,” tells founder Suzanne Roche.

“We connect parents and families to resources that will ensure full participation in the school system and community, providing educational support not otherwise available to primary and secondary school students in at-risk families.”
