Glenroe Community National School warmly welcomes new Head Teacher
The communities of Glenroe and Ballyorgan last week had their first opportunity to meet newly-appointed Glenroe Community National School Head Teacher, Julie O’Connor, at the school’s registration evening. The socially-distanced event on Wednesday 24 June at the Community Hall was attended by parents/guardians of prospective new students, officials from the school’s patron Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, as well as members of the local working group from Glenroe/Ballyorgan Community Council.
Speaking at the registration evening, George O’Callaghan, Chief Executive of Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, said: “It’s great to be here on this very special occasion marking the re-opening of the school as Glenroe Community National School. I must commend the working group for its tremendous perseverance in working so hard to see this dream come through.” He continued: “In introducing Julie O’Connor, I want to say that we are delighted that she has accepted the position as Head Teacher and to warmly welcome her to the ETB. It’s a great challenge and a great adventure to be taking on this exciting role. We are delighted to be part of the community and to provide any help and support we can give to the school through Donncha Ó Treasaigh, our Director of Schools; Shelagh Graham, our Director of Organisation Support and Development; and of course through Julie, as Head Teacher.”

Julie O’Connor, Head Teacher
Glenroe Community National School is scheduled to open this September. Last week’s appointment of Julie O’Connor as Head Teacher followed confirmation in April by the Minister for Education and Skills of the intention to establish a CNS in Glenroe as a result of an extensive period of engagement between the local working group from Glenroe/Ballyorgan Community Council, the Diocese of Limerick, Department officials and Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board.
Speaking at the event, Julie O’Connor said: “I would like to welcome all the parents and guardians and the future students of Glenroe Community National School. It’s lovely to have met some of you already. It is my great honour and privilege to have been appointed to the position of Head Teacher. Under the guidance of the ETB, and with the support of you the parents/guardians and the local community, we will dedicate our efforts to the holistic development of each child through the use of high quality, future-focused teaching and learning approaches which strive to develop each individual student’s academic, social, moral, emotional, spiritual and creative capabilities. The school will be committed to the value of partnership, where parents/guardians, staff and members of the wider community will work together to enable all of our students to reach their full potential.”
Following the successful registration evening, there will be another opportunity this Saturday, 4th July, for prospective parents/guardians and members of the community who couldn’t attend last week to meet the new Head Teacher between 9am and 1pm in the Community Hall. The excitement continues to build as preparations are now well underway for the school to reopen in August and to welcome students from the locality.
