Department Approval Granted for Main Building Refurbishment at Glenroe Community National School

Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board has announced that approval has been granted by the Department of Education to refurbish the main building at Glenroe Community National School. Works will commence shortly and the pupils and community can look forward to having a state-of-the-art facility when the school reopens after the summer. Glenroe CNS has had a very successful first year of operation. The works on the main school building will help build on that success and provide excellent accommodation for the school for many years to come.

Commenting on the approval, George O’Callaghan, Chief Executive of Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, said: “The process has commenced whereby a design team appointed by the ETB will draw up plans to refurbish the existing building, appoint a contractor and manage the construction project over the coming months to provide state-of-the-art facilities for the pupils in the school.”

Glenroe CNS opened last September following a collective effort and partnership between the local working group from Glenroe/Ballyorgan Community Council, the Diocese of Limerick, Department officials, and Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board. Julie O’Connor was appointed as Head Teacher of the school in June.

Glenroe CNS is the first Community National School in Limerick and joins a growing network of community national schools throughout Ireland. The school provides a child-centred education that caters to the intellectual, physical, cultural, moral, and spiritual needs of the pupils. The staff nurtures pupil development with a rich and diverse learning experience where there is a particular emphasis on languages, wellbeing, technology, arts, and natural sciences.
