The mother-and-daughter business began as a stall in Williamscourt Mall Shopping Centre on William Street almost 35 years ago, before moving to Arthurs Quay and finally to its long-term home at 30 Cruises Street.

Glitzi Bitz has been a focal point of the shopping street ever since, and owners Fionnuala and Sharon Conway believe moving there has been beneficial to both the business and shoppers.

“I can’t believe it has been 35 years since we opened our stall. It only feels like yesterday, to be quite honest,” admits Sharon. “We love Glitzi Bitz, so it’s not like working at all.”

Beginning as an accessory outlet, the business has expanded significantly to offer trendy clothing, shoes and jewellery.

Since relocating to Cruises Street, Glitzi Bitz Limerick has become a one-stop-shop for fashion lovers to pick up contemporary and stylish outfits for any event, be it formal or casual.

The Limerick-born business is unique in that shoppers can walk out with a head-to-toe look, as Sharon and her team stock carefully selected matching styles.

Glitzi Bitz Limerick even offers a dye service, so customers can have accessories that pair perfectly with their outfit, something not widely available in the city.

Of staying on trend and in demand over the years, owner Sharon said, “In a way, the Covid-19 pandemic was a help to us because we only started selling clothes when there were no weddings to cater for.

“We had to diversify, but now dresses are probably our top selling item. People can come in and get their whole outfit, and prices are reasonable as well.”

The Limerick-born fashion destination has found great success since setting up shop in 1990, with eight bustling locations across the country including Galway, Athlone and Ennis. In recent years, Glitzi Bitz has also expanded online, with a high volume of clothing, shoes and accessories available for delivery nationwide.

Reflecting on the constant growth of Glitzi Bitz over the past three decades, Sharon commented, “I can’t believe that we are still here, especially after Covid-19 and knowing what other businesses have gone through.

“We are so grateful for the support we have received down through the years, especially in our Limerick store, where we have so many loyal customers.”
