Limerick City and County Council has announced an open call for Grants Under the Arts Act funding for 2020.

The scheme offers grant funding to amateur, community or voluntary groups, or organisations, as well as individual arts practitioners, which in the opinion of the selection panel, will stimulate public interest in the arts, promote the knowledge, appreciation, and practice of the arts or assist in improving the standards of the arts here in Limerick.

The Arts Act 2003 defines the Arts as painting, sculpture, architecture, music, film, drama, dance, literature, design in industry and the fine arts and applied arts generally. The awards can be used for the professional development of artists, the arts and increasing access and participation in the arts.

All ‘Grants Under the Arts’ applications will be considered by an independent selection panel, appointed by the Culture and Arts Office of Limerick City and County Council. The selection panel will meet to assess and make recommendations on all eligible applications.

Their recommendations will then go before a Limerick City and County Council meeting for approval.

Dr. Pippa Little, Culture and Arts Officer with Limerick City and County Council said: “Limerick City and County Council is delighted to open Grants under the Arts Act for 2020. These grants offer an opportunity for amateur, community or voluntary groups, or individual practitioners to apply for funding. Last year 37 amazing projects across the length and breadth of Limerick were supported through this grant funding across the art forms, from African drumming to opera, from musicals to community drama, visual art exhibitions, to artists’ professional development.”
