Sellors LLP is a law firm in Limerick that was started over 150 years ago. Every year they make an effort to raise funds for worthy causes and they try to have fun while doing it for the Christmas season. In 2018 for example they climbed Ireland’s three highest mountains.

This year all the businesses on Glentworth Street are getting involved in the challenge and so they dubbed it the Glentworth Challenge. Due to the 5km Covid rule, they came up with the idea of each business submitting a team and having them commit to walking 50,000 steps a day and thus the Great Glentworth Challenge was born.

2020 has been a strenuous year for so many people and this has given Sellors a greater determination to make a difference for those who need it most. This year they are taking part in the Great Glentworth Challenge and have chosen to fundraise for Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland and Children’s Grief Centre.

Stephen Keogh, the managing partner, said, “We decided to extend participation to our colleagues on our terrace on Glentworth Street and do something as neighbours. The objective is to bring the businesses on Glentworth Street together, with the common objective of raising money for worthy causes and having some fun.”

The challenge will run over three weeks, ending on Friday December 11. Each business on Glentworth street will be trying to outstep the rest all while raising money and profile for these two amazing causes. They will also be posting a weekly leader board to spur on all the participating teams and to keep us all informed on their progress.

“Every office on Glentworth Street can enter a team (or several teams) of up to five people, where the number of steps registered by the group is counted. The weekly step count by each team is recorded and we will have a league table. We will run the competition for over three weeks. For 21 days, people can make up their steps any day, whenever or wherever they like. Each week we will share the progress,” said Mr. Keogh.

The steps are counted by an app called StrideKick, synced with your phone, so everything is legal and above board. The winning team will receive the Great Glentworth Challenge trophy. However, the main goal is to raise as much money and profile for the Children’s Grief Centre and Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland.

Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland’s mission is to change the world for children with autism. Their dogs can open a whole new world of opportunities and possibilities for children with autism and their families. Their primary focus is to train and place highly skilled autism assistance dogs. In addition to working with assistance dogs, they also provide companion dogs that are a welcome friend to someone who struggles to form relationships with their peers and can help reduce anxiety for children and adults with autism.

Every year at Sellors we make an effort to raise money for a worthy cause and we try to have fun while doing so. 2020…

The Children’s Grief Centre is here to walk the journey with your child. They provide support, care, and an open ear to hear their story. They do not charge a fee for their service. Experiences of loss and bereavement are all too common among children and young people in Ireland today. It was founded in 2009 by Sister Helen Culhane, and Sister Helen still has an active role in helping the children to go through their loss.

The fundraising kicked off with a socially distanced launch photograph. The companies that have signed up are Sellors LLP; Healy & Partners Architects; Hayes Solicitors; O’Neill & Co; Hanly Donnellan Auctioneers; Gleeson’s Spar; Mullane Financial Services; GVM Auctioneers; Southern Marketing Design Media, and lastly the Limerick Leader. In total, there are 16 teams. The entry fee for each team is €100.

Donations will be received until December 15 and they have set their target goal as €5,000.

Announcing the fundraiser on Instagram Sellors LLP said, “Our main goal is to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charities and would be grateful for all donations, no matter how small.”

Mr. Keogh said, “While it is an individual challenge due to Covid we wanted to do something as a community in Glentworth Street, have a bit of fun, get fit, and take our minds off Covid-19.”
