Managing Director of Barringtons Hospital,Denis Cahalane said, “These children are the parents and adults of tomorrow. Developing a positive relationship with exercise at an early age will have benefits for a lifetime”.

Primary school children from 260 schools in 12 different counties took part in the not for profit event and €5 from every race registration fee was sent back to the participating schools.

UL Vice President Academic and Registrar, Professor Paul McCutcheon presented cheques to the following schools – Monaleen National School, Milford Grange NS, An Mhodh Scoil, St Nessans Mungret N.S., Caherline NS, Gaelscoil Sairseal, Kilkishen NS, Ahane NS,  Gaelscoil Chaladh An Treoigh, and Scoil Ide.

Professor McCutcheon said, “It is tremendous to see events like these giving back to the community, and so I am delighted, on behalf of the University, to present to the primary schools here today in Plassey House. Running and other mass participation sporting events are becoming increasingly popular across the country and the Great Limerick Run promotes positive lifestyle choices for our young children and the equally important aspects, participation and enjoyment.”

Race Organiser, John Cleary said, “To see over 3,200 primary school children participate is just fantastic. These children are a credit to themselves, their families and their schools”.

The UL Sport Children’s Run is now established as an integral part of the Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run. This fun event is sponsored by UL Sport and is organised by Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run in conjunction with Limerick Sports Partnership and the HSE. Great Limerick Run Kids Run Raises 15 000
