Shannon Airport Group celebrates success at Green Awards 2026 and inclusion in the new Regional Airports Programme 2026-2030, bringing €45 million investment capital to regional airports

The Shannon Airport Group has been named winner of not one, but two, Green Awards: Green Public Sector Organisation of the Year and Green Large Organisation of the Year, which were announced last night at a ceremony in Dublin.
The Green Awards are considered one of the premier platforms for celebrating excellence in sustainability across Ireland and acknowledge organisations that are leading the way in environmental innovation, sustainable business practices and climate action.
Commenting on the double win, Sinead Murphy, Head of Sustainability at The Shannon Airport Group said the group are “delighted and honoured” with the achievement.
She said, “We continued to reduce carbon emissions, which saw the airport achieve Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation last month. We launched our Solar PV farm, which will supply up to 20% of the airport’s annual electricity needs, and we continued to enhance biodiversity and integrate circular economy principles.
We’re very proud of that work and to have it recognised on a national platform, among other strong and respected fellow nominees, is really appreciated.”
This latest success marks a strong start to 2026 for The Shannon Airport Group and builds on an impressive 2025, during which it won the Operational Excellence award at the Aviation Industry Awards and the Environment & Biodiversity award at the Chambers Ireland Awards.
The group has also welcomed the airport’s inclusion in the new Regional Airports Programme 2026-2030, due to the broadening of the scope of the programme, which will now include airports with up to three million passengers annually.

The Sectoral Investment Plan for Transport under the recent NDP Review will provide almost €45 million capital investment over the period 2026-2030 under the Regional Airports Programme for airports that meet the new criteria (Shannon, Ireland West Airport (Knock), Kerry and Donegal).
Welcoming the announcement, Ray O’Driscoll, Interim CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, said it “represents a strong endorsement of Shannon’s strategic importance to balanced regional development” as well as their role supporting sustainable connectivity for the West and Mid-West.
He said, “It will support essential upgrades and ongoing investment to ensure our airport infrastructure remains resilient and future‑ready. Inclusion in this programme is something we have consistently highlighted as essential to ensuring that Shannon Airport can continue to deliver on its full potential for the country.”
