Limerick will go green for See Change’s Green Ribbon Month 2024 this September in hope to “help change minds, one conversation at a time” around mental health
This September Limerick will go green for See Change’s Green Ribbon Month promoting mental health awareness and reducing stigma with support locally from A.B.C for Mental Health.
Part of a nationwide effort by See Change, the National Stigma Reduction Partnership aimed at encouraging open conversations about mental health issues, the annual See Change Green Ribbon campaign aims to spread awareness about all mental health difficulties to help end mental health stigma and discrimination.
Since 2014, A.B.C. for Mental Health has been a key player in Limerick’s Green Ribbon Month, organising events, workshops, and talks to foster a supportive community for those experiencing mental health challenges in the city and county. A.B.C. believes that by joining together people can have a big impact in challenging the stigma associated with mental health.
Among the events planned for this year is the World Suicide Prevention Day Candlelight Vigil on September 10th, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at Arthur’s Quay Park which will see the community light candles and join in the global conversation on suicide prevention.
This year’s World Suicide PRevention Day theme is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” and hopes to shift the public’s perception and create a path to understanding.
In addition to the vigil, A.B.C. for Mental Health has organised a series of talks and workshops at The Hunt Museum throughout the month of September including a “Mindfulness for Emotional Health” talk on September 4, and a “The Art of Self-Love” workshop on September 11.
Other events planned throughout the month include a “Journey to Calming my Chaos” talk on September 18 and the month will conclude with an art exhibition at Treaty City Brewery, opening on September 27.
For the month of September, the Limerick community are encouraged to wear a green ribbon in a bid to show their support for mental health awareness and “help change minds, one conversation at a time”.
The full lineup for the month will begin in the Hunt Museum on September 4 from 1-2 pm “Mindfulness for Emotional Health” Talk with Louise Lynch, on September 11 from 1-2 pm “The Art of Self Love” Workshop with Edwina Nash, on September 17 from 11-12.30 pm “Building Resilience & C.H.I.M.E.” Workshop Facilitated by Shine with Amanda Clifford, on September 18 from 1-2 pm “Journey to Calming my Chaos” Talk with Leah McNamara, and on September 24 from 1-2 pm – “Ho’oponopono – The Hawaiian Practise of Forgiveness & Healing” with Christine Beekman.
