Gregorian Chant Workshop

Gregorian Chant Workshop takes place this Saturday in the Sacred Heart Chruch at 3pm.

The Sacred Heart Choir is a twelve-member choir, which is comprised of Canon Lebocq (Prior of Sacred Heart Church and Choir Director) Canon Coggeshall (Vicar) and Abbé Turner. These three men are Seminarian all of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, who now occupy the former Jesuit Church of the Sacred Heart.

Other members of the choir include a variety of nationalities and genders including members as young as eight years old. The choir are extremely successful as they’ve competed and won against the Glenstal Abbey Boys Choir, and were found worthy to take home the much coveted trophy that had never been given out to any group since 2009.

On March 19, 2016 the choir will be holding a Gregorian Chant Workshop at the sacred heart church from 3pm until 6pm. The event is open to all ages, genders and nationalities and admission is free to the event. The choir would like people to come and discover the beauty of Plainchant and its expression in the liturgy, public prayer of the Church.

 

On the day the choir will be teaching people the following;

  1. Introduction to solfege and intervals Dynamic unity: Using the Rhythmic gesture at the service of the voice Mastering interpretation of the neumes
  1. The spirit of the Gregorian modes Chironomy: the art of choir direction
  1. Introduction to the chant of the psalms in the Latin Liturgy 6pm: Vespers of the Feast of Saint Joseph.
  1. Canon Lebocq and Deacon O’Connor will be available for individual assistance and advice.

This is set to be a really great afternoon filled with an amazing spiritual experience for all who attend! If you’re looking for something this weekend after St.Patricks Day make sure to stop by the Sacred Heart Church.
